The Maarruu Walan Dance Group was originally known as the Yarradamarra dancers from the Yarradamarra Centre at Dubbo. Where they specialized in teaching Aboriginal Culture through Workshops, Cultural Camps and Performance.Culture from the Ngembaa people had been given to the Dance Group by Uncle Paul Gordon and Uncle Peter Williams. Culture from Wiradjuri had been given to the Dance Group by Uncle Wayne Krause.

The Maarruu Walan language groups include: Wiradjuri, Ngembaa, Wongkamarra, Mardigan and Kamilaroi. They come together to dance and teach the Aboriginal culture in traditional ways.

In 2005 the Maarruu Walan (meaning big lightning) group was formed with the tribal elders permission. This name was given to the group from Uncle Wayne Krause and is from the dreaming of how the land was formed. Wayne also has a son named Maarruu Walan.

Maarruu Walan has performed for the Commonwealth batten relay 2006 in Parramatta, NSW Australia, Liverpool Council Australia Day celebration and a Cultural Camp for Global Education.

Members of the group have been in the teaching Aboriginal cultural for the past 20 years and teaching in a the traditional way for even longer.
